Dr. John Peters is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. His primary focuses are skin cancer and reconstructive surgery, medical dermatology, and laser medicine.
A native of Clarks Summit, PA, Dr. Peters earned his Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) from Jefferson Medical College where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society.
Upon graduation, Dr. Peters entered active duty in the United States Navy. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center before reporting to Naval Air Station Pensacola where he became a Naval Flight Surgeon and served with a Marine Corps squadron in Okinawa.
After multiple deployments in the Pacific, Dr. Peters returned to postgraduate training and completed a residency in dermatology at Naval Medical Center San Diego where he became Chief Resident. Afterwards, he served as Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth as well as Assistant Professor of Dermatology through the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 2023 after 13 years of military service at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
He then completed a prestigious fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cosmetic & Laser Dermatologic Surgery at SkinCare Physicians in Boston, MA where he was mentored by world-renowned faculty with appointments at Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, and Brown Medical Schools.
Dr. Peters has been a speaker at national and international meetings and the author of over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters.
His hobbies include all sports, scuba diving, weight training, hiking, skiing (both water and snow), and spending time with his wife, Samantha, son, Charles, and daughter, Ellie.
